Our core mission is to isolate new human stem cells to the standards required for clinical application and make those cells available to potential users for both research and clinical applications.
By operating to such high standards, we are able to offer our partners and collaborators undifferentiated stem cell lines that are highly characterised and thoroughly tested.
Our cell lines form the basic material with which our collaborators can develop cell therapies for clinical applications. They also represent the ideal starting material for researchers engaged in drug discovery
We are playing a leading role in establishing appropriate protocols for all aspects of the generation of stem cell lines for clinical applications:
- We are licensed by the UK's Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority to use human embryos for the derivation of human embryonic stem cell lines
- We are licensed by the Human Tissue Authority for the procuring, testing, processing, storage, distribution and import/export of human tissue of tissue for human applications
- Our Roslin facility operates to current Good Manufacturing Practice
- We are participating in major international initiatives to establish comprehensive minimum standards for stem cell characterisation
- We are continually developing our internal capabilities for assessing cell safety and carrying out cell characterisation
- We support initiatives for the development of improved protocols for the ethical procurement and use of human tissue
In addition to the supply of high quality cell lines for research and therapy, we are actively involved in collaborations that support the development of new technologies within the stem cell sector.
Our capacity to procure primary tissue to high ethical standards and our extensive expertise in good tissue practice and good manufacturing practice for cell culture enable us to provide wide ranging support to companies and researchers wishing to develop new stem cell culture technologies
To facilitate this we have established Roslin Cellab in conjunction with the Roslin Foundation. This is a specialist facility which operates as a "stem cell hotel" to enable companies to complete proof of concept studies using stem cells.Read more...
The company operates on a not for profit basis whereby any surplus revenues generated will be reinvested into stem cell research.
