Collaborating with Roslin Cells
We recognise that the commercialisation of stem cells is at an early stage and that the needs of our partners vary.
We pursue a flexible approach to commercialisation that is compatible with the commercial and legislative requirements of all parties.
In general our cells are made available under a license arrangement that provides the customer with assured access to the line with payments linked to demonstration of fitness for purpose and commercial application.
We believe that any therapeutic stem cell programme will demand a long term collaborative relationship between the cell line supplier and the developer of the therapeutic product. This collaborative relationship could extend to a range of activities beyond cell line derivation including:
- characterisation of lines to agreed standards
- development, implementation and validation of differentiation protocols
- cell banking
- supply of differentiated cells for preclinical and clinical testing in local centres of excellence
As part of our mission to promote stem cell science, we engage in many other collaborative activities including:
- collaborative development and exploitation of cell culture media optimised for isolation and maintenance of cells free from exposure to other human cell or animal derived materials
- implementation of quality systems in laboratories active in the development of therapeutic applications of human embryonic stem cells
- development of appropriate isolation, quality and regulatory systems for other types of therapeutic stem cells
- evaluation of new equipment in applications relating to human embryonic stem cells
- development and implementation of differentiation protocols for Roslin Cells lines
